OVERCOMING TEMPTATIONS _ BY PASTOR RICHARD BAGANZI

Sermon Dated: Wednesday 14th. July. 2021

Title: Overcoming temptations.

Main text : 1Corinthians 10:12-13

So if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall and that no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.

God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

From the beginning of all creation, temptations have been there. Temptations are here and temptations will be here for all generations until Jesus Christ will come for his chosen ones. The reason is 'because the tempter is here on Earth'. As Children of God we just need to be on guard against Satan's schemes.

From the above scripture,   I have come up with three principles to overcome temptations;

👉 Reading and meditating on God's word.

In God's word, we're told of many characters who overcame temptations in order for us to imitate them. For example Noah, Abraham, Jesus among others. It's only the word of God that will help us stand firm. Jesus overcame Satan's temptations with the word of God (Matthew 4:1-11).

👉 Resisting the devil.

All of us know that Satan is the author of all temptations therefore, there is need for us to resist him. Let's not waste our time by arguing with the devil. James tells us to resist him and he'll flee. James 4:7. Remember God is faithful to help us out. We can't be tempted beyond what we can handle.

👉 Realising our weaknesses.

Satan always make use of our vulnerability to tempt us. Our weaknesses might be money, sex, gossiping among others. Let us avoid places and activities which tempt  easily.

"Above all, openly speak to God about your weaknesses because you know it better than I do. He is faithful to help you out"

In conclusion, God always had escape routes for the children of Israel whenever they faced temptations. We shall also overcome all the temptations we are facing right now and emerge stronger than before!

God richly bless you.

We love you.
